Stephen A. Smith Calls Out ‘Stupid Homer’ Who Didn’t Vote Lamar Jackson For NFL MVP

Lamar Jackson was just one Josh Allen vote away from being the unanimous MVP of the 2023 NFL season and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was not pleased to see someone go against the grain like that.

On Friday’s edition of First Take, Smith called the voter a “stupid homer” who committed an “embarrassment” by voting for Allen over Jackson. Smith accused the writer of only doing so out of fear of getting heat in the Bills’ locker room.

“That was a stupid homer vote by that individual, probably scared to go back in the locker room if he had voted against Josh Allen. That compromises everything. You have to be objective when you have a vote. And that writer — I don’t know who the hell it was — but that’s an embarrassment,” Smith said.

But NFL fans aren’t convinced that the decision was as outrageous as Smith is making it out to be. Some of them pointed out that Allen had superior numbers to Jackson in many key statistical categories:

“Frankly it’s more embarrassing that anybody got 49/50 first place votes this season. Josh getting ONE VOTE despite leading the league in total touchdowns and total yards isn’t the embarrassment he’s making this out to be,” one user replied to Awful Announcing.

“Ridiculous from Stephen A. Aaron Schatz was the one Josh Allen voter. Haven’t seen him in a #Bills locker room once. And the amount of “yeah, yup, I agree” in the background (which could be just one person) is further baffling,” another pointed out.

“What exactly about Lamar Jackson’s season suggests that he deserves to be the unanimous MVP? Lamar only got it because he’s a QB who had a good (not great) season on the best team in the league. Underwhelming,” a third declared.

At the end of the day, Jackson won the MVP award. Whether he won it by 1 vote, 48 votes or 50 votes really doesn’t change the fact that it was an incredible year for him.
