Tavon Young named Ravens' 2021 Ed Block Courage Award recipient

December 11, 2021 by Ravens Wire

The Baltimore Ravens have put together a roster full of talented football players that also carry themselves very well off of the field. The team cares very much about their culture, and it’s been a strong suit of the organization for many years.

On Friday, Baltimore tight end Mark Andrews had the pleasure of announcing the Ravens’ Ed Block Courage Award recipient for 2021 since he was the team’s winner of the honor in 2020. He explained a bit about the award and also about the team’s recipient for this season, which is cornerback Tavon Young.

“So, for this year’s Ed Block Courage Award … I was nominated last year. Specifically, one of the awesome things we did was talking to the kids at St. Vincent’s [Villa], which was an incredible experience. This award represents high character [and] courage. It’s one of the highest awards you can get in the NFL, and you’re voted on by your peers. Ed Block was actually based out of Baltimore, so this hits home. He did a lot in our community. This year, we voted on somebody that embodies everything that this award means. [He’s] someone that’s worked hard through everything. He’s had a bunch of injuries, but he’s a fighter, continues to fight, and he’s a heck of a teammate – Tavon Young.”

Young talked about what winning the award means to him, especially with going through all that he’s had to overcome.

“It means a lot. Everybody knows I’ve faced a lot during my career, my young career, so far. It means a lot to be voted on by my teammates, my peers, the training staff. They’ve always been behind me through everything, so it means a lot.”

The Ed Block Courage Award is voted on by the players on the roster, so the fact that Young’s teammates supported him meant a lot to the cornerback.

“Yes, for sure. When people vote [you] for something, that means that they really believe it. It’s nothing that was just given to me by one person. I’m really appreciative, and I thank everybody.”

Young has certainly earned the award with his performance on the field, his kindness off of it, and his overall perseverance. He is absolutely deserving of such an honor, and he has proven that even if you get knocked down, you can get back up again.
