The Aegis high school sports players of the week for April 14-20

April 22, 2025 by The Baltimore Sun

Each week throughout the season, The Aegis will select players of the week in each spring sport. The public will then have the opportunity to vote which of the individual sport selections will earn the honor of overall Harford County Player of the Week. Voting will run through the end of the day Tuesday and readers can vote once per hour.

Here are the Athletes of the Week for April 14-20.

Boys lacrosse

Ian Swartzendruber, Fallston

Swartzendruber scored eight goals in three games last week, all Fallston victories, to push the Cougars to 10-1 on the season.

Girls lacrosse

Pieper McCue, John Carroll

The junior and Ohio State commit scored nine goals and added 12 draw controls across two games for the Patriots last week.

Baseball

Brycen Altland, John Carroll

Altland homered in a two-hit, three RBI effort in a 10-3 victory over Loyola last week. Altland’s home run was the Patriots’ 35th long ball this season, a school single-season record.

Softball

Aubrey Buckmaster, Bel Air

In a scoreless start in the circle, Buckmaster struck out 12 Joppatowne batters and gave up just two hits in a 9-0 Bobcats win.

Boys track and field

Darian Walters, Edgewood

Walters won the 3,200-meter run at Saturday’s Art Madric Hall of Fame Invitational in 9:51.2, a new school record. He also anchored on the Rams’ winning 4×800 team that tied a school record (8:14).

Girls track and field

Brielle Whitworth, Edgewood

The University of Pittsburgh commit won the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Madric Invitational. Her 1,600 time of
4:57.62 ranks as the top time in Maryland this outdoor season.

Tennis

Angela Kim and Sophia Trinh, Patterson Mill

The Huskies’ No. 1 doubles team continued their strong season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the finals of the Tydings Division Tournament, helping Patterson Mill win the team title.

Last week’s results

Patterson Mill softball’s Mandi Redmiles beat out North Harford boys lacrosse’s Ethan Smith with 37.3% of the vote. Smith finished with 24.6%.

Harford Tech track and field’s Winter Evans finished third in the vote with 13.6%. Patterson Mill girls lacrosse’s Emily Tapley was fourth with 10.9%.

Redmiles was originally selected for the week in which she pitched two dominant outings for the Huskies. She tossed a perfect game in a 16-0 win over Joppatowne, then a scoreless one-hitter in a 6-0 victory over Bel Air. She tallied 17 strikeouts to just four walks across 12 innings on the week
