The Ravens are in the ‘introductory stage’ of a Lamar Jackson contract extension

The two-time MVP could become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL

Lamar Jackson is coming off the best season of his career, posting a ridiculous stat line of 41 passing touchdowns to only 4 interceptions. The two-time MVP could now be in line for a contract extension to make him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

When speaking on the BMore Baseball Podcast, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta revealed that he has had discussions with Jackson regarding a new contract.

“We’ve had some conversations before the draft, after the draft, in person last week,” DeCosta said. “I think we’re in the introductory sort of stage of looking at what an extension might look like.”

Jackson has won an MVP award and been named a First-Team All-Pro twice since signing a five-year, $260 million contract in 2023, far outperforming his current spot as the 10th highest-paid quarterback in the league. Extending Jackson would open up cap space to help with re-signing other core players as well, such as tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, center Tyler Linderbaum, safety Kyle Hamilton, outside linebacker Odafe Oweh, and defensive tackle Travis Jones.

2024 MVP Josh Allen signed a six-year, $330 million deal with the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason, putting him at an average annual salary of $55 million, second only to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ($60 million).

The Ravens enter every season as a strong Super Bowl contender with Jackson at the helm, so it would be wise to lock him up long-term and keep him happy while the two sides continue to push for the ever-elusive Lombardi Trophy.
