President Donald Trump has dismissed the “No Kings” protests that took place over the weekend, calling them a joke and saying they were “ineffective.”
“I’m not a king,” Trump said to reporters on Sunday aboard Air Force One. “I work my a– off to make our country great. That’s all it is. I’m not a king at all.”
He also said the protests were very small and ineffective, although there were some estimates of 2,700 rallies nationwide drawing millions to demonstrate against Trump’s policies. Trump then proceeded to dismiss them as a “joke.”
“The demonstrations were very small, very ineffective, and the people were whacked out,” he said. “When you look at those people, those are not representative of the people of our country.”
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said about Saturday’s rallies to Newsweek: “Who cares?”
The White House responded to the protests over the weekend by posting a series of apparently AI generated videos and a photo of Trump wearing a crown on social media. Another post showed Trump and Vice President JD Vance wearing crowns, with an image of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in sombreros, according to USA Today.
Trump went on to say on Sunday that he thought the new signs at the protest were paid for by billionaire George Soros.
“I looked at the people — they’re not representative of this country,” he said, according to Breitbart. “And I looked at all the brand new signs I guess it was paid for by [George] Soros and other radical left lunatics. It looks like it was. We’re checking it out.”
It was reported last week that the “No Kings” protests were funded by foundations run by Soros.
Through a fund, the foundation issued a $3 million grant to the Indivisible Organization that was good for two years “to support the grantee’s social welfare activities.”
The Indivisible Organization is “managing data and communications with participants” for the “No Kings” protests, according to a report from Fox News.
