Two Ravens make the Madden 99 Club

Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry add another accolade.

Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are both generational players, whose talent and individual uniqueness both on and off the field may never been seen again. Both have won numerous awards between the collegiate and NFL level, from Heisman awards for both to MVPs, All-Pros, Offensive Player of the Years and more. Both are likely Hall of Fame inductees in the future. They each added another award today.

Say what you want about how much something like this matters, it’s still another acknowledgment to Jackson and Henry’s greatness. Separately, both Jackson and Henry have been a defenses’ number one priority when game planning, the most impactful players for their teams but neither have been given this rating before, even when Lamar Jackson was on the cover. To be given credit in this form is something that shouldn’t be ignored, as the Madden 99 Club is rarified air and not given out often, even if it’s just a game at the end of the day. They are the first in-season duo of teammates to be added to the 99 Club ever and are now the highest rated players at their positions, with no equals in the game.

The last Ravens to be in the 99 Club for Madden was Ed Reed in 2009. Before that, Ray Lewis and Jonathan Ogden were last rated 99 both in 2006. All three had previous 99 rankings in other years as well.

Put as much or as little stock into this as you want, but this is still a cool accomplishment for both players and just another add-on to spectacular careers for both Henry and Jackson. The team also acknowledged it in a cool way, with the offensive line and Patrick Ricard, who got a 99 boost for lead blocking in the game as well, announced it for them. Both Jackson and Henry humbly gave their blockers credit for this achievement.
