Tylan Wallace may have had the best bye week of any Baltimore Raven

For three years, Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Tylan Wallace had a plan set in motion once he made it to the NFL. Over the bye week he made true on the promise, bringing his mother outside for a surprise. Parked in front of her house was a brand-new Mercedes-Benz.

“That was one of my goals I set for myself,” Wallace said. “I wanted to be able to do things like that for my family, especially for my mom. I feel like I’ve been pretty smart with my money over the years, and I told my [financial advisor], ‘hey, I’m really looking forward to doing this. I want to do this for my mom.’ It lined up perfect for the bye week.”

Wallace wanted to make such a purchase once he stepped into the NFL, but knew he didn’t have the contract or security immediately. Meanwhile, he had to watch as his teammate Rashod Bateman buy his mother a house in June, mere months after being drafted. Then again when Bateman turned 22-years-old and for his birthday purchased his mother a new Mercedes-Benz.

“It was tough, waiting,” Wallace said. “Especially seeing Bateman get his mom a car and other teammates do nice things for their parents. Waiting when the moment was right, it was tough seeing that, but I knew what I wanted to do and I knew what I had to do to be there. So, that in a way motivated me more to get where I wanted to be, to do that for her.”

Wallace was all smiles, sharing how he put a smile on Moore’s face; it meant the world to Wallace to show her support after all she’s gone through. Moore’s been a single mother, raising Tylan, his twin brother, Tracin, and three more siblings. She raised her five children, ensured both Tylan and Tracin made it to practices and attended all their games. And for all her love and support, her 24-year-old son was able to give back for all the sacrifice.

“I know it wasn’t easy for her,” Wallace said. “Just to be able to give back in any way I can. [I] just [want to] make her smile.”
