Despite finishing the 2022 NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs during their Super Bowl run, running back Melvin Gordon didn’t get a new contract during the ensuing offseason. But it appears he has a new team for the 2023 season.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Gordon is signing a deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Per the report, it’s a one-year contract worth up to $3.1 million.
The Ravens boast one of the NFL’s best rushing attacks over the past few years thanks to quarterback Lamar Jackson’s superb rushing ability. Last year they had four players rush for over 400 yards with six who got at least 40 carries throughout the season.
But with last year’s leader in carries Kenyan Drake now gone, there’s room on the roster for someone to get a bigger role in 2023.
A RB deal: Veteran free-agent Melvin Gordon reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $3.1 million with the Baltimore Ravens, per league source.

The bigger question for Melvin Gordon will likely be how much he has left in the tank. He recently turned 30, an age where nearly all running backs hit the wall, and is coming off his worst season.
Gordon might wind up being lucky to make the team (even with his contract), let alone playing a big role in the 2023 season.
