Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers has become the first receiver in team history to make the Pro Bowl. Selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Boston College product quickly established himself as Lamar Jackson’s favorite target, and the rest of the league took notice. The NFL released the full Pro Bowl rosters on Thursday, and Flowers earned a spot alongside Ja’Marr Chase, Jerry Jeudy, and Nico Collins. The Baltimore Ravens social media team recorded Flowers receiving the news, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the video shortly after the announcement.

Following a promising rookie season, Zay Flowers has done everything in his power to show why he deserves a spot on the Pro Bowl roster. Appearing in all 16 games to date, the second-year pro has recorded 73 receptions for 1,047 yards and four touchdowns, serving as the top option for MVP candidate Lamar Jackson. While Jackson and Derrick Henry deservedly receive praise for this high-powered offense, they wouldn’t be nearly as dangerous without Flowers leading the team in receptions and receiving yards.
While Flowers made the Pro Bowl team, he will not be a starter. Ja’Marr Chase deservedly earned the top spot on the AFC’s Pro Bowl depth chart, as the Cincinnati Bengal is in the midst of a uniquely dominant campaign. Jerry Jeudy, meanwhile, broke out in his first season away from Denver, recording 84 receptions for 1,166 yards and four touchdowns despite inconsistent quarterback play from Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Nico Collins likely would have earned the second starting spot had injuries not sidelined him for a few weeks, but he’s still on pace for another 1,000-yard season.
Zay Flowers deserves his spot on the Pro Bowl roster, but he probably hopes not to play in the game. The Pro Bowl occurs one week before the Super Bowl, and players competing in the big game are ineligible to play in the NFL’s equivalent of the All-Star game. Right now, the Ravens are on pace to earn the third seed and hope to finally hoist the Lombardi after multiple seasons of coming up short in January.
