Who’s your favorite player to have a massive season?

The Baltimore Ravens‘ roster is loaded with star players. It’s also stacked with a ton of young players who are right on the edge of being good or even great. From contract year guys like Isaiah Likely and Travis Jones looking to take that final leap, to rookies like Malaki Starks and Mike Green looking to go big their first year, and others in between.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Which Raven will have the biggest breakout season in 2025?

My Answer: Trenton Simpson

I think there are multiple right answers for this one. Isaiah Likely will be a popular one with fans hoping and expecting him to have a Top 10 season at his position and earn a massive extension in Baltimore. However, I don’t think that kind of season happens with Mark Andrews still on the roster — Lamar Jackson’s favorite target.

In the meantime, Simpson has been at the facility all offseason. Simpson had a rough sophomore season despite impressing mightily during training camp and the preseason. After starting as the three-down backer next to Roquan Smith, he slowly lost snaps as the season went along. Malik Harrison and Chris Board took many snaps as either the run stoppers or pass coverage, respectively.

Now, heading into 2025, the Ravens haven’t done much to say they’ve lost confidence in Simpson. They signed a special-teams linebacker in free agency and drafted a linebacker in the fourth round. Neither of those players should be expected to take significant snaps, leaving Simpson once again as a three-down linebacker next to Smith. Speaking of Smith, the well-known avid traveler spent most of his offseason with Simpson in the facility. They trained and watched film together, building a chemistry that might not have been there in 2024.

With a year of experience and an offseason alongside a top linebacker in the league, I expect Simpson to build on the big plays he had last year and limit the mental lapses that held him back last year. I don’t know if we will get the same outcome that Smith and Patrick Queen had in 2023, where both were Pro Bowl players, but I expect the middle to be much more fortified than last year’s defense.
