The Washington Commanders head into free agency next week with plenty of money to spend. According to Over the Cap, the Commanders have an NFL-high $91.5 million in salary cap space. Washington’s effective cap space is $80.8, also the tops in the NFL.
How much will the Commanders spend? And will they be aggressive for top free agents?
General manager Adam Peters spoke at the NFL combine recently and made it clear that the Commanders will be a draft-and-develop team, but he will investigate any avenue to improve the team.
Washington has holes across the roster. Don’t be surprised if the Commanders target veterans on cheaper, shorter deals to fill some of those holes. With an experienced coaching staff that comes from all over the place – rather than one place like the previous staff – Washington will have ties to multiple players, as Peters and head coach Dan Quinn will look for the best fits.
