Veteran small forward Carmelo Anthony will become a free agent this summer. According to a report, two teams have emerged as “dark horses” to land the former star.
‘Melo spent the 2021-22 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He played 26.0 minutes per game, averaging 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists for the season.
The talented veteran is expected to receive interest from a few contending playoff teams this coming offseason. According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat have emerged as “dark horses” for Anthony in free agency later this year.
Anthony would be a strong veteran presence off the bench for either team.

It’s not a guarantee Anthony keeps playing, but the expectation is he’ll at least play one more year.
“Anthony certainly would be amenable to a season in Miami, playing with veterans like Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry, as well as Bam Adebayo,” Deveney writes. “‘That is one place I could see both sides saying it makes sense,’ a Western Conference executive said. ‘But only if Miami makes a trade. They have a lot of young guys who need minutes and they have to figure out how that will be sorted. If it is Melo (Anthony) or, say, Caleb Martin, they’re going to keep building up Martin.’”
Source says @Lakers are the “starting point” if Carmelo Anthony plays next year.
– Exec: “mutual interest” if he wants to join the @BrooklynNets (finally).
– @nyknicks? “It’s crowded”
– And beware darkhorses like @MiamiHEAT & @celtics
