With training camp around one week away for the Washington Commanders, we begin our previews of each position ahead of camp with a look at quarterback.
Washington’s quarterback room looks much different this summer than it did one year ago. Last summer, Washington was hoping to squeeze one more year out of veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was coming off a successful tenure with the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, Fitzpatrick went down with a hip injury in Week 1 and never returned. He retired earlier this year.
Taylor Heinicke started 15 games for Washington last season, leading the team to seven wins. Heinicke played well at times, but his limitations were often apparent, and the Commanders went into the offseason looking for an upgrade.
Enter Carson Wentz. Wentz is on his third team in three seasons, and this could be his last shot as an NFL starter.
