The Morgan State Bears(2-5) got their get back on the Norfolk State Spartans (2-6) beating them 32-28 on Saturday Oct, 28.

The Bears had an insane 22 unanswered point fourth quarter outburst to snap the 18 point lead the Spartans had. This win would put an end to the five game losing streak the bears had been on this season.

The Bears came into this contest looking to spoil Norfolk’s homecoming as the Spartans’ did to the them last season Oct, 8 2022 when the Spartans took the lead over the Bears with five seconds left to win 24-21.

That loss stung for the Bears until Saturday. Redshirt freshmen Offensive Lineman Mosula Tapusoa said, “We did not have the outcome we wanted last year in front of our home crowd for homecoming…So we get a chance to go and spoil their homecoming and we are coming with that heat this week.”

The Bears didn’t look to come with much heat to start this one as through the first half the score was 10-14. This trend would continue into the fourth quarter as Morgan would find themselves down 28-10 with 10:56 let on the game clock.

It was at that point Junior Defensive back Keith Jenkins Jr. would take a kickoff 90 yards to the house and after a two point conversion completed to Joseph Owumi to make the score 18-28. This would open the flood gates for Morgan.

With 6:33 left Bears linebacker Erick Hunter would intercept a Otto Khuns pass and return it for a 60 yard touchdown.

After Norfolk State did nothing with their next drive the Bears would put in Freshmen quarterback Tahj Smith with 3:58 left to go. Smith would drive the bears offense 65 yards in nine plays, tacking on a 14-yard rushing touchdown for himself to put Morgan ahead 32-28 with :35 second left to go.

This game the Bears had some of their best rushing numbers of season rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt Junior J.J. Davis was the leading rusher going for 113 yards on 13 carries averaging 8.7 yards per carry.

The defense had one of their worst performances to date allowing 28 points and 343 yards but they did get two interceptions from Junior linebacker Erick Hunter and Redshirt freshman Defensive back Tyrin Woodby.

The Bears look to build off of this win as they host the Delaware State Hornets (1-7) in their final home game Saturday Nov, 4.
