A 29-point rally boost Johns Hopkins over Salisbury

The #13 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays came into Salisbury and beat the Seagulls 42-7 after putting up 29 unanswered points in the second half. The Blue Jays remain undefeated at 3-0 leaving Salisbury at 1-2.

Two Salisbury missed Field goals were the difference between a one-score game and a tied game at the end of the first half as a Jaden Davis 72-yard touchdown kept the Seagulls in the game. This would the the only score for Salisbury on the day as out of the half Hopkins would run away with this one.

The Hopkins offense also outgained Salisbury by 238 yards. The bulk of Hopkins’ yards came on the ground as the rushed for 250 and averaged 5.1 yards per carry. The bulk of their rushing yards came from running back Geoff Schroder who came out with a career-high 148 yards on 21 attempts averaging seven yards per carry. Their passing game handled business as well with quarterback Bay Harvey throwing for 187 yards three touchdowns and an interception. His leading receiver was Col Crotty who had 95 yards on seven catches and tacked on two touchdowns.

On Defense Luke Schuermann had himself a big day with two sacks and three and a half tackles for loss. Linebacker Cole Peter would get his first career interception as well. The defense as a whole held Salisbury to only 231 of total offense.

The Salisbury offense could get nothing going all game. Only producing 99 yards on the ground their main offensive identity was shut down all day. Through the air wasn’t much better as Ben Hutchins when 3/11 for 128 yards and one touchdown. This was with 72 of those yards coming on the one pass to Jaden Davis.

The Seagulls’ defense came to play in the first half holding the Blue Jays’ offense to 13 points and 212 and only two drives going over 38 yards. From that point on with 15 points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth Johns Hopkins finished Salisbury. Senior DB A.J. Butler also got his first interception of the season. Senior Linebacker Casey Counts finished with 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
