Adam Peters speaks at the NFL Scouting Combine

February 26, 2025 by Hogs Haven

The Washington Commanders GM answers questions from the media

The NFL world has once again descended on Indianapolis for the annual scouting combine. Coaches, executives, and scouts will be here to interview prospects, and gather information that will influence their decisions in April. The Combine is also a time when team’s are gauging interest from player’s agents, and also testing the waters for potential trades.

This is Adam Peters second scouting combine since being hired by the Washington Commanders as their general manager. Washington made it to the NFC Championship game in the first year of his “recalibration” of the team, alongside head coach Dan Quinn who was also hired last year. The team picked Jayden Daniels in the first round last year, and the rookie QB exceeded everyone’s expectations as he led the team to its best season since their last Super Bowl win.

Washington currently has seven draft picks, but that could change before the draft begins on April 24th. There are rumors about the Commanders interest in Browns DE Myles Garrett, and the team has given Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade. Washington already traded several picks last season for a former All-Pro in CB Marshon Lattimore, but injuries limited his contributions. Peters and Quinn have a lot of work to do to a roster they patched together last year behind a rookie phenom, and they will get a closer look at some potential new players this week.

Free agency:

Adam Peters at the Combine:

“We got 28 free agents… we’ll be active in free agency because we have to be to field a team… we’ll look to bring a lot of the guys that we had back from last year and build off of that”@JPFinlayNBCS #RaiseHail #Commanders pic.twitter.com/48eSTExtdZ

Adam Peters is talking with reporters at the NFL Combine today.

— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWC) February 25, 2025

Running backs:

Adam Peters thinks the uptick in rushing will help the RB position going forward:

“I think they were probably de-valued a little bit too much, it’ll even out.” He did say that he thinks last year’s FA class was rare in terms of the available star-power (Barkley, Henry, etc).

— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) February 25, 2025

Sam Cosmi:

Sam Cosmi is already back at the facility rehabbing, Peters said.

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) February 25, 2025

Terry McLaurin:

Adam Peters wouldnt address an extension for Terry McLaurin. The GM said how much Terry means to Washington and those discussions will be kept in house.

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) February 25, 2025

Draft capital for a big trade:

Q @Sam4TR: “Do you feel you have enough draft capital where if you wanted to make a significant trade that you would still be able to build through the draft?”

Peters: “Like what?”

“There’s always going to be trade-offs if you do something like that”#RaiseHail #Commanders pic.twitter.com/6kR7Y05SbE

Edge defenders:

GM Adam Peters on what he looks for in an edge rusher.

Ideally, 6-5, 36-inch arms, a 1.3-sec 10-yard split in the 40-yard dash and a slew of intangibles.
