The Washington Commanders were busy this offseason upgrading a roster that went 4-13 last season. The Commanders were dead last in most defensive metrics, and part of that was due to a secondary that couldn’t stop the big play.
Washington used a first-round pick on cornerback Emmanuel Forbes last year, and things couldn’t have gone any worse for Forbes. He struggled, and he was benched. He also battled injuries and lost his confidence.
Forbes wasn’t the only Washington cornerback to struggle. Benjamin St-Juste took a step back in his third season after a promising second season. The Commanders allowed their top cornerback, Kendall Fuller, to depart in free agency. Washington signed several veterans in the offseason, with former Charger Michael Davis having the best chance to crack the starting lineup.
The Commanders used a second-round pick on Mike Sainristil, who is expected to start in the slot as a rookie.
