NFL teams must cut 37 guys to get down to 53 players on active roster a week from today.

One week until NFL cuts. Eight days until the Commanders find a kicker.

Last year, Daniels got a reputation for recklessness after he took three massive hits in his first five games:https://t.co/zj3AgeeUXW pic.twitter.com/7ovhatuTSz
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) August 20, 2024
But the rep is overstated.
Daniels ran ~500 times in college, and on fewer than a dozen was he “driving drunk,” his dad’s way of saying running recklessly.
The hits overshadowed many slides, steps out of bounds or athletic moves to lessen contact.https://t.co/zj3AgefsNu pic.twitter.com/eceoTNtKJG

By the time he got to LSU, in 2022, he’d improved his sliding — which was important because, in two years there, he took a lot of contact, per @TruMediaSports.https://t.co/zj3AgefsNu pic.twitter.com/7wRc8phffK

At LSU, the only injury serious enough to fully knock him out of a big game was vs. Bama, and it had nothing to do with sliding.
In fact, before last year, many of Daniels’s worst hits happened on passes — plays that could happen to any QB any time.https://t.co/zj3AgeeUXW pic.twitter.com/2AVzQmPjG4

Concerns about Daniels’s recklessness are linked to his thin frame. Some analysts worry it won’t hold up in the NFL.
But DQ said the Commanders don’t need him to gain weight. And, as other slender QBs have shown, bigger doesn’t always mean better.https://t.co/zj3AgeeUXW pic.twitter.com/TRPbxCkcLx

2. Will the Commanders call QB sneaks?
In college, 8/12 attempts worked but 12/12 were violent.
The NFL says the small amount of data on sneaks suggests they’re not more dangerous than other plays.
The team has its own determination to make.https://t.co/zj3AgefsNu pic.twitter.com/Y8XG9tU6vs

In the preseason games, Daniels has been pretty safe. Even though he didn’t slide on that run vs. MIA, it seemed calculated, not reckless.
The drive before, he protected himself (and FG range) with a throwaway.https://t.co/zj3AgeeUXW pic.twitter.com/ciYVOztzk6

QBs should slide when possible. Period. That said in Washington we focus too much on it. Way more people die of drowning in the ocean than shark attacks, but people are freaked out about shark attacks. Passing from the pocket is drowning, sliding is shark attacks.

Jayden Daniels may not have shown the Wow plays we saw from Caleb this past weekend, but the Commanders have to be pumped about what they’ve got. He’s in command, the ball comes off his hand so easily and fluid

Tough scene yesterday for my Driskel Devotees. DQ used the words “perfect,” “gold,” and “special” in recognizing Mariota’s supporting role.

It’s hard not to see Tyler Owens as a final 53. https://t.co/ojhXh1PQoD

Which QB is most likely to lead the NFL in INTs?
Odds suggest it will be Josh Allen or Jayden Daniels pic.twitter.com/z9oRbNMXrg

Jayden Daniels will be Washington’s 36th starting quarterback since the 1993 season, a trend people in and around D.C. hope stops with the second overall pick. pic.twitter.com/B1PuTcGcqI

Just an observation…if Jayden Daniels doesn’t play on Sunday against the Patriots, he will not have played on his home field at all until mid September. Weird.
