For the past few months, T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers have been negotiating a new contract.
Watt has been a Defensive Player of the Year-caliber player each of the past three seasons and wants to be paid as such. However, the Steelers haven’t met his demands and now it looks like the two sides won’t agree to a new deal before the 2021 season kicks off.
Watt is heading into his fifth season with Pittsburgh. He will be playing on his fifth-year option if he and the Steelers don’t come to an agreement.
With the 2021 season drawing near, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger thinks it’s time to pay the man.
“I think T.J. should get whatever the heck he wants,” Big Ben told reporters on Wednesday. “He’s arguably the best football player in the game right now, not just on defense but in general.”

“I’ve been through a few negotiations here with contracts and one of the reasons I took less money was so that guys like him could get paid,” Roethlisberger continued. “He needs to get paid. He deserves every penny that he wants and asks for. T.J. Watt is that guy that should get whatever he wants.”
It’s a clear message from the leader of the Steelers. Roethlisberger knows just how important Watt is to the team’s overall success.
Now it’s time to pay him.
