Brady Quinn Critical of Washington QB Decision

December 26, 2021 by Redskins Wire

Brady Quinn singled out the Washington Football Team this week.

The setting was Thursday’s Dan Patrick Show when Patrick inquired to Quinn, “Which team should stick with its quarterback Miami, Indy, Philly, the Niners, Washington?”

Quinn asked, “For next year?”

Patrick: “Yes, like you are set at the position.”

Quinn: “Honestly, I feel like all of them, with the exception of Washington.”

Quinn continued:

Washington is the interesting one to me like where I think you go back to before the season. I am still questioning, what was the plan? Ryan Fitzpatrick was going to be the guy and that was going to be how it would go? Maybe they battle for the NFC East, maybe not. Given his age and what is their ceiling if that is the decision you are making? So, I never understood that whole plan to begin with, so that is the one team I can assure you is going to be looking for a quarterback in the off-season.

Ok, a couple of things immediately come to mind.

With Fitzpatrick not even making it to the first half, how easy is it later to jump on that decision made by the WFT staff headed by Ron Rivera?

Wouldn’t your stated opinion be much more respected, if there was a record of Brady Quinn having actually proclaimed this last spring when Washington signed Fitzpatrick?

He also conveniently overlooks no NFL team simply signs players in a vacuum. There is a salary cap involved. So Washington signed Fitzpatrick for a good value at $10M for one season only.

Thirdly, Quinn also overlooks the historical context that Washington (like other teams) desired to trade for Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford. However, the Rams threw in the extra first-round pick to win the contest, obtaining Stafford’s services.

Finally, Quinn goes out on a limb and assuredly informs listeners that Washington will definitely be looking for a quarterback in the off-season?

Wow, you think?

I certainly wish Brady Quinn no harm; may he have a prosperous, successful career, and a wonderful family. But isn’t hindsight always 20-20?  And even more so, when you ignore context altogether?

Simply a reminder, if you listen a little closer, how often will you find well-paid analysts state the obvious as if they discovered that truth?
