The NFL has seen plenty of news over the past week with Aaron Rodgers deciding to remain in Green Bay and Russell Wilson and Carson Wentz getting traded.
While Friday morning didn’t bring that kind of blockbuster move, it did continue the NFL news cycle. Earlier this morning, the Cleveland Browns took the headlines for a brief moment with a move of their own.
According to a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Browns plan tender running back D’Ernest Johnson at the right of first refusal.
“The #Browns plan to tender RFA RB D’Ernest Johnson at the right of first refusal number, source said,” Rapoport said.

If a team offers a new deal to Johnson in free agency, the Browns will have the chance to match that contract. Cleveland already has Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt on the roster.
However, the 2021 season showed why having Johnson on the team was important. After both Chubb and Hunt were forced to miss some time, Johnson stepped right in and the Browns offense didn’t miss a beat.
In three games as the starting running back, he racked up 368 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He also added 10 receptions for 90 yards through the air.
