The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be putting the franchise tag on one of their best players before Tuesday’s deadline.
Per Tyler Dragon of USA Today, the Bucs will be putting the tag on star receiver Chris Godwin. Godwin was expected to be a free agent after this season, but that will no longer be the case.
Bucs are expected to franchise tag WR Chris Godwin before Tuesday’s deadline, per source.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Just last week, PewterReport confirmed that a new deal is coming for Godwin and that he’s not going anywhere.
#Bucs WR Chris Godwin isn’t going anywhere folks. He’s going to stay in Tampa Bay with a new deal. It’s not done yet, but it’s coming.

The two sides will now have until mid-July to negotiate a long-term deal. If that doesn’t happen, Godwin will play with the franchise tag for the 2022 season and his cap hit will be $19.1M.
Godwin was having an outstanding season before he blew out his knee in late December. He injured his knee against the Saints when the Bucs lost 9-0.
Godwin finished with 1,103 receiving yards, plus five touchdowns on 98 total receptions.
Bucs fans are hoping that this is the year Godwin gets paid.

Not surprising at all. Disappointing from a lack of fun “OH EM GEE LOOK WHERE GODWIN LANDED” standpoint, but Tampa tagging him makes total sense. https://t.co/cKIMBpzMFp

Always made sense he wouldn’t get to leave. https://t.co/oADARlXy7o

Smart move. Even coming off a knee injury Godwin is a stud. One of the game’s elite WRs. https://t.co/zkEx9zBGI8

If the Bucs can get a long-term deal done, they’ll then have to figure out who’s throwing him the ball since Tom Brady retired.
