The 2022 NFL season will be known as the “Carson Wentz” revenge tour for the Washington Commanders.
Washington’s new quarterback will face both of his old teams for a combined three meetings in 2022. He’ll also face his former head coach with the Philadelphia Eagles as Doug Pederson is now the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach — Washington’s Week 1 opponent.
Wentz joined “22 Schedule Release” on the NFL Network Thursday during the schedule release show and spoke about the Commanders’ 2022 schedule.
Washington’s Week 1 opponent is Pederson’s Jaguars. The Pederson storyline is notable. However, it was the Jaguars who dominated Wentz’s Colts in Week 18 last season. That was a bad day for Wentz and the Colts, which he remembers well.
“Obviously, it will be a big game, lot of emotions going on running out here at FedEx Field,” Wentz said. “First one as a Commander. Lot of familiar faces on the other side of the ball. Obviously, the last game of last year was against the Jaguars as well and didn’t go quite as planned, so definitely trying to regroup from that one and hopefully set the stage for this season the right way.”
“I know that’ll be a big game. A lot of emotions,” Wentz said. “I’m sure fans will eat that one up and it’ll be fun — make for a good storyline. But at the end of the day, it’s going to be just another ballgame. It’s going to be a huge divisional game for us when that one comes. So I’m excited for it, but at the same time, I’m trying not to get too excited for that one, because, again, it’s just football. Can’t press. Can’t do too much.”
Philadelphia fans already have the Week 10 Monday night meeting circled on the calendar. While Wentz downplayed the significance of his return, he wants this one — bad.
