Nebraska has a new starting quarterback for the 2022 college football season with Casey Thompson joining them from Texas. He had a good reason for taking his talents to Lincoln.
In a recent interview, Thompson explained that he was looking for a team with a great offense and an opportunity to start again. He said that he liked Mark Whipple’s offense and head coach Scott Frost from when he was recruited to UCF.
“I was looking for an opportunity at the quarterback spot,” Thompson told reporters. “I was looking for a great offense. A good offensive line in the research that I did. Honestly, it was just film study just kind of trying to watch and see what teams around the country have potential and where the good receivers are. We have enough talent and we have plenty of pieces in place here to win ball games and compete at a high level, so that’s why I decided to come here. So I would say (Mark Whipple’s offense), partnered with (Scott Frost)… Frost kind of recruited me at UCF in middle school here so I kind of knew what he was about. Then I started studying. Then I saw Nebraska in 2020 and ‘21 and that’s what led to my decision.”
Thompson was the starting quarterback for Texas in 2021. He completed 63.2-percent of his passes for 2,113 yards and 24 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

It’s been a very rough four years for Nebraska under head coach Scott Frost. They haven’t made a bowl game for his entire tenure despite having a solid quarterback in Adrian Martinez.
With Martinez gone, Nebraska could have been facing some instability at quarterback this coming year. The arrival of Casey Thompson should temper things a little.
Will Nebraska finally reach a bowl game this year?
