We’ve come a long way in recent years. The Washington Commanders won the NFC East with a 7-9 record in 2020. The division hasn’t had a back-to-back winner since 2004, when the Philadelphia Eagles won their fourth NFC East title in a row. Since that time, 17 division winners, but no team repeated.
Is that parity?
Now, heading into the 2022 season, the Cowboys look capable of repeating as NFC East champions. Don’t count out the Eagles, though, who made several moves this offseason after becoming a surprised Wild-Card team last season.
Then there are the Commanders and the New York Giants. New York is in the first year of a long-needed rebuild, while Washington expects to make a big leap in 2022.
So, as a whole, the NFC East should be better next season.
According to CBS Sports, which ranked all eight NFL divisions, the East is again the worst.
It’s still the NFC Least for me. None of these teams has displayed a recent pedigree to be anything other than horrible-to-mediocre at best with any consistency in recent years. There is not a legit Super Bowl threat in the bunch, although I think the Eagles are gonna be better than some would think. Still, I bet only one team from this bunch reaches the postseason, despite them getting to feast on one another. The Cowboys are in decline, the Commanders always stink and the Giants are mired in a rebuild (though I believe Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen will finally lead them out of it eventually). Be careful what you wish for Woodbridge, Virginia. And who you do business with.
