The Chicago Bears‘ backfield will look a bit different this fall. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the team is releasing Tarik Cohen with an injury designation.
“Bears are releasing RB Tarik Cohen with an injury designation, per source. He is not able to pass a physical yet stemming from his knee injury during the 2020 season. Cohen’s goal is to be ready in time for this upcoming season,” Schefter tweeted.
Cohen is not able to pass a physical yet due to his knee injury. However, he plans on being ready in time for the 2022 season.
Unfortunately for Cohen, he has been out for over a year due to a torn ACL. Although the injury occurred in Week 3 of the 2020 season, the North Carolina A&T product actually missed the entire 2021 season.
The Bears will pick up $2.25 million in cap space by releasing Cohen.

When healthy, Cohen is a versatile weapon. In 2019, he had 444 rushing yards and 725 receiving yards for the Bears.
At 26 years old, Cohen should be able to find a new home in the NFL this offseason.
The Bears, meanwhile, will rely heavily on Khalil Herbert and David Montgomery. They should be a formidable duo at running back for years to come.
