Chris Cooley on Washington getting Carson Wentz

March 13, 2022 by Redskins Wire

What does Chris Cooley think of the proposed Carson Wentz trade to Washington?

Cooley appeared on Friday’s “Kevin Sheehan Show” podcast and here are a few of the quotable quotes from the former Washington tight end.

“It is the best they could do. I actually loved Carson Wentz for a few years in Philadelphia. I think he is a player. I think he is a stud.”

“There is something obviously missing. This happened earlier, in his Philly career… I think some of the team really believed in Nick Foles. I think some of the coaches really believed in Foles. I think that was really hard on Carson Wentz.”

“They pay it all (Wentz salary), they let Indy off of the hook on that. But they can afford it.”

“Maybe Scott Turner is his dude. If not in the QB room and as the head coach, you have got problems. He has caused problems two times in a row, two different places.”

“Even if Ron can’t coach him, I’m sure Dan (Snyder) will get along great with him (dripping with sarcasm). No, I don’t think this reeks of Dan.”

“I think you still take a shot in the draft on somebody (quarterback). You can’t sit here and say that we know it is going to be Carson Wentz for the next five years. It is impossible to say that after his previous history.”

“No question (Wentz is an upgrade). He is sort of a bigger, stronger, faster Heinicke.”

“That second year in Philly he was so special.”

“Sometimes you find your team’s character when you lose. When you lose and your QB plays poorly, how does he handle it with the media, his team, and with his coaches in working through practice the next week? Can he shake it off? Can he forget it and work to get better? And that is a big part of it.”

“I think I would have rather had Jameis (Winston) than Wentz. I want top-to-bottom leadership, a guy I can consistently build around. A guy I can work with, a guy everyone loves in the building.”

Many Washington fans likely preferred Winston to Wentz because of the cost. However, many around the NFL believe Winston will return to New Orleans in 2022.
