Over the weekend, the Oscars was marred by an incident between actor Will Smith and comedian Chris Rock.
Rock was the host for the awards show on Sunday night and made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see ya,” Rock said.
Pinkett Smith shaved her head to avoid patches of baldness caused by her battle with alopecia. Chris Rock might not have known about her condition, but Will Smith made sure he was punished for his comment.
Smith walked up to Chris Rock on stage and slapped the comedian. At first, fans thought it was a staged moment, but they quickly learned otherwise.
Or did they? On Monday night, Complex reported that tickets for Chris Rock’s upcoming comedy tour have seen a spike in ticket sales.
Of course, it didn’t take long for fans to start reacting to the news. Some believe the slap could have been part of a marketing strategy for Rock and his new tour.
“So!!! It could have been a marketing strategy?!” one fan asked.

Fans know that there is no such thing as bad publicity when it comes to being a celebrity.
“No such thing as bad publicity,” another fan said.

Earlier this week, Will Smith apologized for his actions.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” Smith wrote in an Instagram message of his own.
Was this all just a publicity stunt?
