Colin Cowherd: 1 NFL Team’s Super Bowl Window Is Closed

March 28, 2022 by The Spun

Colin Cowherd on The Herd.

The Green Bay Packers seemingly extended their title window at least one more year by bringing back Aaron Rodgers.

Colin Cowherd, however, thinks otherwise.

The radio host bashed Green Bay for “operating under an old premise” and not adapting to the NFL’s increasing importance placed on wide receivers. He thus believes “the window’s closed” after trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.

“The Green Bay Packers have, without question, the weakest wide receiving corps in the NFL,” Cowherd said. “Life moves fast. Be able to pivot. Green Bay has had a really bad offseason.”

Of course, the offseason could have gone far worse. Rodgers leaving certainly would have warranted the assertion that Green Bay’s title prospects have vanished.

With the four-time MVP back, it feels premature to count out the Packers.

Despite suffering another early playoff exit, Green Bay has won the NFC North with 13 victories in each of the last three seasons. Unless any of their competitors take a major step forward in 2022, the Packers are considerable favorites to capture another division crown.

It’d be foolish to dismiss any team’s chances when they’ll likely earn a postseason bid.

Entering the season with Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb as starting wide receivers would certainly be concerning. However, the offseason isn’t over. Cowherd credited Green Bay’s ability to develop drafted players, and the Adams trade gives the franchise two first-round picks to finally select a pass-catcher on Day 1.

The Packers trail the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers among the most likely squads to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVII. Yet saying any chance of a championship slammed shut is a far cry from more reasonably noting that their championship odds take a noticeable hit without Adams.
