Picking the best quarterback in an NFL division is typically a fun game, but it’s not much of a contest in the NFC East.
One would assume Dak Prescott is the obvious answer. Jalen Hurts is still too unproven following an intriguing, but uneven sophomore season. While a new coaching regime could tap into Daniel Jones’ upside, he’s won 12 of 37 starts with 40 turnovers.
Carson Wentz will return to the NFC East for the Washington Commanders after one season with the Indianapolis Colts. He’s a solid starter when healthy, but surely nobody thinks he’s better than Prescott, who tallied 886 more passing yards and 10 more touchdowns in one fewer game last season.
Enter Colin Cowherd.
While “The Herd” host called it “a coin flip,” he ultimately ranked Wentz over Prescott.

Prescott has a higher career completion percentage, quarterback rating, and more yards per attempt than Wentz. He also has a lower interception rate and higher touchdown rate. Last season, the Dallas Cowboys signal-caller set personal bests in completion rate (68.8%) and passing touchdowns (37) with a 104.2 quarterback rating.
Wentz, meanwhile, ended his season by going 17-of-29 for 185 passing yards, one touchdown, one pick, and six sacks in a must-win game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Everyone is still dreaming about Wentz’s breakout 2017, and even that was arguably not as incredible as some remember. While he threw 33 touchdowns in 13 games (11 wins) for the Eagles, he also finished 11th in net yards per attempt behind Case Keenum.
Washington could rise up the division standings with better quarterback play, but it’s hard to make the case for Wentz over Prescott.
