It feels like the Washington Commanders have been searching for a free safety for 15 years. Washington has tried it all, from drafting players, signing free agents, converting former cornerbacks, etc., to no avail.
Washington entered the 2022 offseason with safeties Kam Curl and Landon Collins. Unfortunately, both players were better suited to play strong safety, leaving Washington again searching for a free safety.
Suddenly, after the 2021 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins released veteran defensive back Bobby McCain. It didn’t take Washington long to bring McCain to town and signed him shortly thereafter.
After six seasons in Miami, McCain’s was solid and consistent in his one season in Washington. Now, he is a free agent.
