Will the San Francisco 49ers trade star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk? That’s the question the rest of the NFL is wondering after the latest development in the saga between Aiyuk and the Niners. On Monday, Aiyuk told his good friend — and Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels — that San Francisco told him they “don’t want me back.”
It’s difficult to imagine a team that wants to keep Aiyuk would tell him they do not want him. Could the negotiation be a difficult one? Sure. And it would make sense. Have you seen some of the recent deals given out to wide receivers? Remember, the Niners will need to make a decision about paying quarterback Brock Purdy soon.
If San Francisco can’t strike a deal with Aiyuk, trading him makes sense. With one year remaining on his contract, the 49ers could still receive a nice return. Remember, San Francisco used a first-round pick on wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and already has Deebo Samuel under contract.
Interestingly enough, Pearsall was on that same 2019 Arizona State team with Daniels and Aiyuk.
What will the 49ers do?
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently named five logical landing spots for Aiyuk. Here are those five teams:
