Commanders players share reactions to Madden NFL 23 ratings

July 24, 2022 by Redskins Wire

The Madden NFL video game is a big deal for those who love video games. It’s also exciting because it means football is right around the corner.

While everyone anxiously awaits the game’s release in August each year, NFL players are excited for another reason. The month before, EA Sports releases Madden ratings for every NFL player in the game. Players are excited to learn their ratings for that year’s version of the game.

However, many players aren’t happy with their ratings. Some take to social media to reveal their displeasure in a lighthearted manner.

For the Washington Commanders, only two players received ratings over 90: Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen and wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

The Commanders’ official Twitter account caught up with several players asking them what their ratings should be and what their reactions were once they learned of their ratings for Madden NFL 23.

What rating did Allen believe he’d receive?

“At least a 90, I hope a 90,” Allen said.

Allen’s grade was a 92, to which he smiled and appeared content.

Defensive end Montez Sweat just hoped to be somewhere in the 80s.

“I’ll be happy just to be in the 80s,” Sweat said. You can tell Sweat isn’t too concerned about his Madden rating. When Sweat learned he received an 80, he replied, “oh, well that’s perfect.”

Safety Bobby McCain was asked if he wanted to know his rating. He laughed and asked for the reveal.

Upon learning he was a 78, McCain laughed and said, “oh, that’s crazy. You see how they do me?”

Cornerback William Jackson III upon learning he received an 83 overall rating.

“Not good,” Jackson said.

What about wide receiver Curtis Samuel?

“If you gonna say anything under an 80, I don’t want to hear it,” Samuel said. Samuel was indeed under 80, largely because he missed most of last season with injuries.

Punter Tress Way was thrilled with his 82 rating. “Yes, it’s perfect,” Way said. “Honored.” For Way, he felt it was an honor for a specialist to be over 80, with the caveat of he just hoped that “kick power” was high.

Way’s kick power was an 84.
