The Washington Commanders made some roster moves on day four of training camp Saturday, by signing a pair of offensive tackles.
Washington signed veteran Rashod Hill, 30, who spent the previous six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Hill, who played collegiately at Southern Mississippi, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He was signed off Jacksonville’s practice squad in Nov. 2016 by Minnesota, where he appeared in 74 games, making 22 starts.
The Commanders also signed offensive tackle Alex Akingbulu. Undrafted out of Fresno State, Akingbulu spent time in the USFL with the Philadelphia Stars. He’s the third former USFL player on Washington’s roster. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Akingbulu began his college career at UCLA before finishing at Fresno State.
To make room for Hill and Akingbulu, the Commanders placed franchise legend Ryan Kerrigan on the reserve/retired list, and released guard Beau Benzschawel. Kerrigan, of course, signed a one-day contract with Washington on Friday to retire with the franchise where he spent 10 seasons and is the all-time sack leader.
