Commanders Urged to Sign $105 Million Free Agent

June 16, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

commanders urged sign bakhtiari

The Washington Commanders are urged to sign $105 million free agent offensive tackle, David Bakhtiari this offseason. According to a source, the Commanders are still going into this year with the biggest question mark at left tackle but they could sign Bakhtiari to fill that hole. It’s a position that would protect incoming quarterback, Jayden Daniel’s blindside when he makes his debut. However, many sources like Bleacher Report say the blindside is a priority and they could fill the need with him.

The Commanders have low-end tackles at the position like journeyman Cornelius Lucas and rookie Trent Scott. Brandon Coleman and Sam Cosmi but only one of them played guard in 2023 and was one of the best. However, they could use someone like Bakhtiari who has been able to play in every game. The Commanders could be hesitant to bring him in since he is a big risk for injury after knee issues have been slowing him down.

Bakhtiari was one of the NFL’s dominant offensive tackles for the last decade. Since being with Green Bay all his tenure, he made All-Pro for five consecutive seasons from 2016 to 2020. However, 2021 was the downfall of his career where he was only appearing in one game. Bakhtiari should be worth the dice rolling since he’s probably the best available tackle in the market.

He should be healthy and ready to sign anywhere that becomes available for him. His doctor said Bakhtiari is having positive results while recovering from knee surgeries that have been dwindling his play. However, the Commanders were able to sign former Cowboy Tyler Biadasz to their offensive line so all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together for them. Bakhtiari seems to be the last gem that could provide some upside.

Other Potential Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

This would be an ideal move considering that the offensive line the Cowboys have been building for the last decade is getting older. Zack Martin is already hinting at retirement and Travis Frederick isn’t around anymore, it shows they’re lacking veteran experience. Tyron Smith is off to the Jets so this means they need some type of insurance policy to mentor the young group for Dallas. One source says that moving Tyler Smith to another position in case Tyler Guyton wouldn’t be the best situation.

There would be more pressure on the incoming rookies including Cooper Beebe. However, they don’t have Biadasz anymore but they were able to find his replacement in this year’s draft. The Cowboys should gather as much help for a cheap offer that would supplement the pass protection for Dak Prescott. Bakhtiari is stellar when healthy and he probably would be open to taking a lesser deal.

Baltimore Ravens

Ronnie Stanley is their long-term starter at the position but Bakhtiari could help if he ever goes down with injury. It would give an immediate boost for a Super Bowl run, one that Bakhtiari would probably be open to. Patrick Mekari is the projected starter for the right tackle so they may need some help on that end. However, Bakhtiari is at the point in his career where he could excel anywhere on the line.

Since trading Morgan Moses, getting a high-risk veteran for cheap should be something that John Harbaugh can consider.

Kansas City Chiefs

Wanya Morris has been in some offseason issues so it’s hard to imagine what else kind of trouble he may get into. It’s really unlikely but the thought of not having depth behind him is scary for the Chiefs’ stellar offense. They still have one of the most complete NFL rosters in the league despite not having enough at the receiver position. Jawann Taylor could move to left tackle but that wouldn’t benefit Bakhtiari if they bring him in.
