The Washington Commanders are set to report back to work for the first time since the end of the 2021 season on Monday. It’s the beginning of the voluntary offseason program for the Commanders, so there’s a chance some players will not be in town.
The biggest name, of course, is defensive end Chase Young. However, Young is still rehabbing after suffering a torn ACL in November. Young created headlines last offseason by skipping the voluntary portion of Washington’s offseason. While it was his right not to participate, it didn’t make head coach Ron Rivera too happy.
Will Young be in town Monday?
If he isn’t, is it a big deal right now? You’d certainly like to see him in town because he’s such an important member of the team and a leader.
Rivera has been optimistic about Young’s participation this offseason.
It’s been a quiet offseason thus far for the Commanders on the football side of things. Outside of the big trade for quarterback Carson Wentz, Washington has signed only two outside free agents in guard Andrew Norwell and defensive Efe Obada.
Some notable Commanders who’ve departed since the end of the 2021 season are guards Brandon Scherff and Ereck Flowers, and defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis.
