The Washington Commanders are hosting the Dallas Cowboys for their season finale. A loss makes it very likely that Washington will have the #2 overall pick in this year’s draft, and a win will give the Cowboys the NFC East division title. A big game for the future of both franchises for very different reasons.
The Dallas Cowboys won’t be resting their starters, but that isn’t the case for the Washington Commanders. They have ruled out four players for Sunday’s game, and have been shutting down players for the season over the last few weeks. DE Jonathan Allen(knee) played last week, but CB Kendall Fuller(knee) was ruled, and will miss another one as he deals with injury at the end of a long, disappointing season. Fuller is a free agent this year.
Two young cornerbacks were also ruled out after suffering injuries last week. Christian Holmes suffered a scary concussion and has not cleared the protocol. Tariq Castro-Fields was also getting some playing time on defense vs the 49ers, but suffered a shoulder injury that will end his season early.
Three players have been designated as questionable for Sunday’s game. S Kam Curl(quad) and DE Casey Toohill(shoulder) were listed as full participants on Wednesday, but didn’t practice yesterday and could miss the season finale. Curl is also a free agent this year. He said after practice that Washington didn’t get a deal done with him before the season. He wants to be here, but he also wants to feel wanted.
RT Andrew Wylie(elbow) didn’t play last week, and was a limited participant in practice. Trent Scott replaced him vs the 49ers, and would likely get the start again in the season finale.
Ron Rivera named Sam Howell the starting QB on Wednesday. Jacoby Brissett was supposed to get his first start of the season last week but he suffered a hamstring injury last Thursday. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice, but was a full participant for the next two and doesn’t have an injury designation for the Cowboys game. Ron Rivera told reporters after practice they haven’t decided if Brissett of Jake Fromm will be Howell’s backup.
Ron Rivera said they haven’t decided yet if Jacoby Brissett or Jake Fromm will be the backup QB Sunday. They’ll determine that later today.

WR Curtis Samuel(hamstring), DT John Ridgeway(foot), DB Quan Martin(chest), and CB Benjamin St-Juste were all on this week’s injury report, but don’t have injury designations and will play on Sunday. St-Juste missed last week’s game, but will return to start in a banged up secondary. Samuel popped on the list this week, but will get one last chance to put some highlights on film before he hits free agency this year.
