Jayden Daniels delivered in his NFL debut
The Washington Commanders visited the New York Jets in New Jersey for their first preseason game of the season. They opened up the game on offense, debuting Jayden Daniels as the team’s starting quarterback. He led the team on an 11-play, 70-yard touchdown drive that saw him running the ball in himself for the score. Daniels was 2 for 3 on the driving, hitting a beautiful 42-yard sideline bomb to WR Dyami Brown on third down early in the drive. Washington got the ball down to the 3 yard line, and Daniels read the play perfectly, keeping it for the score. Daniels was done after the first drive, giving way to veteran QB Marcus Mariota who also only got one drive. Jeff Driskel was next up as Washington’s remaining starters sat out.

Jayden Daniels goes deep to Dyami Brown, who catches it with a defender nearly hanging off of him. Brown has had a good camp.

Good pocket from the OL, absolutely zero pressure up the middle, and Jayden Daniels hits Dyami for a big gainer down the sideline
— Mitchell Tischler (@Mitch_Tischler) August 10, 2024
Austin Ekeler just told @wusa9 broadcast that Jayden Daniels changed the call at LOS on the 3rd/7 + 42 completion to Dyami Brown, because he didn’t like the look, per the veteran RB. #Commanders

Jayden Daniels —-> Terry McLaurin:
Jayden absolute laser for Terry. Not a big gain but havent seen that throw look like that from a Washington QB in a while

1st down review:
These hawkeye review delays are pretty damn long
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 10, 2024
Nick Allegretti false start:
Pre-snap penalties — still an issue for the Commanders’ offensive line
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 10, 2024
Jayden Daniels keeps it for the TD!:
Check out Cole Turner and John Bates clear the edge for Jayden … great job by Bates to turn his guy to the inside and Turner drives his guy through the back of the end zone https://t.co/HKXjPv2QO7

First run play of the year, and despite it being 6 yards down field, Emmanuel Forbes stuck his helmet in there to make the stop

Emmanuel Forbes vs the pass:
Pretty good coverage from Forbes on the deep sideline shot
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 10, 2024
Frankie Luvu:
Luvu lined up at right DE and got the edge on Jets first round T Olu Fashanu … forced Tyrod out of the pocket on that third down play – whole play was called off for an ineligible lineman downfield, but love to see that from Luvu

Mikey Sainristil human missile holy moly.

Olamide Zaccheaus:
Olamide Zaccheaus just ripped off a 19-yard punt return that will help his cause.
I’ve got him on the roster anyway, but if he’s able to make a few plays in the return game you can break out the sharpie for Zaccheaus early on.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 10, 2024
Offsetting penalties wipe away a 24-yard reception by Zaccheaus, who is quietly having a solid game so far

— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 10, 2024
Forbes has got to use his hands at LOS
didn’t get his head around either
Inconsistent technique

Jamin Davis vs Olu Fashanu:
Good test for Jamin Davis getting reps vs Olu Fashanu … not often in the second quarter of a preseason game that you get reps against a first round T and future starter

Greg Zuerlein 56-yard FG:
Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein just booted a 56-yard field goal.
Speaking of long Zuerlein FG’s. It was Greg the Leg’s 54-yarder last December — with 5 seconds left, to beat WSH — that made drafting Jayden Daniels at No.2 a possibility. Could end up being worth remembering. pic.twitter.com/gzrxJZDHd7
