The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need of cap dollars, as they’re currently projected to be $21 million over where the team needs to be next season. Now, according to Pro Football Talk, the ‘Boys are turning their eyes to quarterback Dak Prescott.
Per PFT, Dallas is reportedly in the process of trying to restructure Dak’s four-year, $160 million deal signed last offseason.

The Cowboys will more than likely try to convert some of that into a signing bonus in order to kick the can down the road a bit.
As it stands, Prescott would be a nearly $35 million cap hit in 2022. And that figure will only grow over time. As it spikes to $45.45 million the following year and $48.45 million in 2024.

Should the Cowboys restructure some of Dak’s money, that would only grow those future cap hits but give them relief in the short-term.
Though its important to remember that the NFL’s salary cap should only go up in the coming years due to TV deals and increased gambling revenue.
But at the end of the day, Prescott’s deal is going to cost Dallas $160 million cap dollars regardless of how they manipulate it. But such is the game for any NFL team with a big-money franchise QB.
