It would’ve been understandable if Dak Prescott looked rusty in the Dallas Cowboys’ season opener, especially after missing the entire preseason. That wasn’t the case at all on Thursday night, however, as he torched the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ secondary.
Prescott completed 42-of-58 pass attempts for 403 yards, three touchdowns and an interception last night. He had the Cowboys in position to defeat the Buccaneers, but the defense was unable to get the game-sealing stop in the closing minute.
Following last night’s loss to the Buccaneers, Prescott told reporters that he wasn’t surprised by his performance. That’s because he knows how hard he worked to rehab from his injuries this offseason.
“I don’t feel like I say things just to say them, so that’s just a credit to all the work I put in,” Prescott said, via ESPN. “I think when you invest that much work in rehab and prehab and just everything that has gone into the last 11 months for me to get on the field, I mean, I’m not surprised about the way that I went out there and fought.”
Prescott also made a telling comment about his skillset. He believes he’s a better player now than he was prior to suffering a major ankle injury in 2020.
“No, I feel like I’m a better player than I was when I left the field [last year] and I told y’all that was the expectations I had for myself, and I’ll continue to try to get better game in and game out.”

There were plenty of concerns about Prescott’s health going into Week 1, but all of them were put to rest because of his performance against the Buccaneers.
If Prescott has a similar outing next Sunday against the Chargers, the Cowboys could pick up their first win of the year.
