Dan Quinn speaks to the media before practice
Dan Quinn to the media today at the first open practice for the second week of Washington Commanders OTAs. The team had the rookies practicing during last weekend’s mini-camp, and the veterans joined them on the field last week. We’ve got another round as coached continue to install their new systems with a lot of new players.

Competition at left tackle:
Quinn said there’s a lot of competition at a lot of spots. At left tackle in particular, Quinn said that position is going to take more time, mostly because they haven’t done a lot of team drills yet. Plus, the nature of the position doesn’t lend itself to this time of year

Bobby Wagner:
Quinn said Wagner does a little of leading by example and talking with teammates specifically. He does it in his own way as a leader. He’s a ball player first, but he gets to pass on his knowledge to younger players

Emmanuel Forbes:
“We’re trying to find out what unique things a player has,” Dan Quinn with interesting comment about Emmanuel Forbes getting some work as punt returner

Leadership:
Good from Dan Quinn on players taking ownership as leaders: “The very best teams Ive been apart of are strong from the locker room first…Sometimes youre the mentor, sometimes youre the mentee.”
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) May 22, 2024
Referees at practice:
Commanders have officials here for practice and Dan Quinn says he hopes they will be at all/most practices.

Reps during OTAs:
Important note from DQ – right now is not depth chart time. It’s about max reps for players. (translate dont get caught up where dudes are running in May)

Joint practice with the Miami Dolphins:
Commanders HC Dan Quinn just shared the team has one joint practice scheduled so far with the Miami Dolphins. Practice will take place before the preseason game scheduled for August 17.
— CWallSports (@cwallse) May 22, 2024
Dan Quinn says the only joint practice on the books is with the Dolphins in Miami. There is a shot more will get scheduled.
That would be at the Jets more likely than here with the Patriots.

Leadership:
It’s still hard to believe Bobby Wagner plays for the Washington Commanders.
The dude is a first ballot Hall of Famer.
I asked Bobby about being a leader today.

Brian Johnson:
I liked this answer from Marcus Mariota about Brian Johnson, “I think from a football mind standpoint, he’s one of the better ones that I’ve been around.” Whatever happened in Philly it sure seems possible Johnson was the scapegoat pic.twitter.com/UvhxBEkwK3
