Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has exceeded Dan Quinn’s high expectations of him thus far.
At the start of training camp, head coach Dan Quinn laid out his plan for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels to the media as training camp and preseason evolved. His evaluation of Daniels during practices, scrimmages, and preseason games would determine Daniels’ path and give the necessary information to his coaches to determine his readiness to start. Essentially, when they know, they’ll know.
For us on the outside, it’s a pretty standard, non-insightful plan that Quinn intentionally fed to the media. Alternatively, whatever the full scope of their plan was internally, Quinn has been pretty impressed with Daniels to this point. Quinn, in his Tuesday presser, talked about just how far Daniels has come along, saying he had “high expectations” initially, but Daniels has “definitely surpassed even my expectations of the readiness, the command.”
Ben Standig of The Athletic joined the latest Trap or Dive podcast and contributed his observations to Quinn’s thoughts. “He never seemed to be frustrated, annoyed, or rattled,” Standig said of Daniels. All the teammates have said the same thing. They’ve been impressed by his work ethic and how he is with them in the locker room.”
