The House Committee on Oversight and Reform recently invited Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to appear at a hearing scheduled for June 22 to discuss the organization’s workplace culture.
Now, Snyder has responded. Well, his lawyer responded via a four-page letter. And, no surprise, Snyder will not appear.
Here is a portion of the letter, courtesy of Axios.
“Although Mr. Snyder remains willing to cooperate with the Committee—as he has done in the past— for the reasons set forth below, he is unable to accept the Committee’s invitation to testify at the scheduled hearing,” Karen Patton Seymour, Snyder’s attorney, wrote in the letter.
According to the letter, Snyder will be out of the country and would attend if the committee would move the hearing. Congress declined to reschedule the hearing.
The letter closed with the following statement:
“In sum, given the Committee’s refusal to accommodate my request to delay the hearing and its unwillingness to recognize Mr. Snyder’s interests in a manner consistent with fundamental fairness and due process, Mr. Snyder is unable to attend the hearing that the Committee has scheduled for June 22, 2022,” Patton Seymour wrote.
“Mr. Snyder, together with Mrs. Snyder and the Team, remain fully willing to cooperate with the Committee in all other respects, including by continuing to discuss the reasonable requests regarding his potential appearance, and by providing information to the Committee about the remarkable changes undertaken by the Commanders to improve and enhance the experience of all Commanders’ employees.”
Per The Washington Post, the committee responded.
“The Committee intends to move forward with this hearing,” a spokesperson said. “We are currently reviewing Mr. Snyder’s letter and will respond.”
Goodell is expected to appear on June 22.
