New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard is returning to the organization on a reworked, one-year contract in 2022.
Shepard was originally signed through 2023 and scheduled to make $8.5 million this coming season. Under his new deal, the 29-year-old wideout now has a max contract value of $5.25 million.
This rework significantly decreases his previous $12.495 million against the salary cap. Cutting Shepard would’ve only saved $4.5 million against the cap, making a reworked deal the most logical choice.
Sterling Shepard’s new deal has a max value of $5.25 million. He was scheduled to make $8.5M. So he can make back a good chunk of that with a strong season.

Shepard, the longest tenured player on the Giants’ roster, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in December. While this injury very well could’ve ended his career with New York, the former second-round pick now has a chance to make back a significant portion of his original contract on an incentive-laden deal.
Before his injury in 2021, Shepard logged 366 yards and one touchdown through seven contests. If he’s able to stay healthy this coming season, he’ll no doubt be one of the Daniel Jones’ go-to offensive weapons in 2022.
