ESPN’s Dick Vitale has been hearing a lot about cheating with regards to the transfer portal.
Vitale tweeted out that he spoke with a coach in college basketball and how it’s pretty widespread. He also thinks that it’s not good for the game.
“I spoke to a coach who told me that CHEATING is widespread in what is going on with the Transfer Portal,” Vitale tweeted. “Promises behind the scenes are going on to PTPERS (primetime players) that if they get their names in the portal, they will be offered. It’s out of control & not good for the game.”

This won’t shock some people as this also happens in college football. Some players enter the portal and within days, they’re already committed to another school.
It’s basically free agency like we see in pro sports, but at a college level.
It’s definitely a problem, but there doesn’t seem to be an easy fix. If the NCAA gets rid of the transfer portal altogether, how do players get to go to other schools if they’re not happy?
It remains to be seen what the NCAA comes up with to combat this issue.
