Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson has been tasked with leading his team out of a multi-year slump. But he has some feelings on the Jaguars teams that came before him.
In a recent press conference, Pederson said he isn’t going to focus on what’s gone wrong with the franchise in the past. He made it clear that he’s moving forward and plans to turn the Jaguars into “a winning organization.”
“It’s hard for me to speak to what has gone wrong or is wrong or whatever. I don’t know, quite frankly, and I really don’t care about that,” Pederson said, via NFL.com. “What I care about is moving forward from two weeks ago when I was hired. That’s what we’re trying to change. That’s what I’m trying to change. I’m trying to turn this into a winning program, a winning organization.
“Do you learn from the past? Of course. You study it, of course. But at the same time, my focus has always been a forward-thinking approach to everything we do.”

Expectations will be high for Doug Pederson in Year One. The Jaguars already went through their growing pains last year with quarterback Trevor Lawrence and their other young players.
Given Pederson’s championship pedigree but also some of the prior problems he had with the Philadelphia Eagles, he may not have a long leash to turn the team around.
He’ll certainly get more time than his predecessor Urban Meyer did. But Pederson is probably not going to make the same kinds of off-the-field mistakes as Meyer.
The ceiling in Jacksonville can be pretty high if Pederson can put it all together quickly. If he can’t, a third straight year as the worst team in the NFL wouldn’t blow anyone’s mind.
