With Micah Parsons emerging as the full-time pass-rusher for the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles could take a look at Lukas Van Ness in a possible trade this 2025 regular season. According to a report, Lukas Van Ness is likely the odd man out in Green Bay since making a generational trade for Parsons to pair with Rashan Gary on the other side of the defensive line. Originally selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Iowa product hasn’t been able to make much of an impact for the Packers’ defense despite recording seven sacks across two seasons. Van Ness is listed as the backup on the depth chart, and if Green Bay continues to utilize both Parsons and Gary for the majority of the snaps, which is likely, then it might be best to dangle the former first-rounder on the trade block.
However, the same report said the Eagles might be willing to trade for Van Ness. They believe the defensive end can elevate Vic Fangio’s defense by getting a legitimate chance on a Super Bowl team that can help him rejuvenate his career. While the Eagles have a ton of talent on defense, they do have a lot of draft capital, so it is possible, since the Packers are looking to win a Super Bowl sooner rather than later, that Van Ness might not fit into those plans. It doesn’t mean the Eagles can’t run it back, but when they lost Josh Sweat in free agency, they should trade for Van Ness as reliable depth.

Best Fits
Los Angeles Chargers
Between Da’Shawn Hand and Otito Ogbonnia, the Los Angeles Chargers should be in the market for another defensive end. While the team has one of the deepest linebacker groups in the league, the same can’t be said about the defensive line. Scott Matlock and Naquan Jones have some type of potential to emerge as reliable backups, but they might be better off getting a fresh start and trading for Van Ness. It’s still a bit of a head scratcher as to why they signed a journeyman like Hand when they had all of the cap space in the world to get someone better.
While Hand isn’t the worst, there is room for improvement. After losing Poona Ford after a stellar one-year season in Los Angeles, they must continue bolstering the trenches unit that can help Teair Tart open the gaps.
Washington Commanders
Meanwhile, the Commanders made some moves this offseason in their trenches unit, signing Deatrich Wise Jr. and Javon Kinlaw to deals. However, these two aren’t completely going to change things around easily when the team lost Dante Fowler. Wise has large shoes to fill to help Dorance Armstrong on the opposite end. They should at least trade for Van Ness at a low-stakes deal for reliable depth.
Carolina Panthers
However, the Carolina Panthers upgraded their defensive line in the best way possible. After signing Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown, the Panthers have some wiggle room to continue adding depth. Van Ness could be a capable backup for Derrick Brown, who is coming off a season-ending injury last year.
