The Towson Tigers dropped their 3rd straight game this past Saturday. Losing to Stony Brook on the road 27-19. Another close game where it just got away from them early on. Despite a comeback, fell short once more.
The Tigers were shut out in the first half and trailed 17-0. Andrew Indorf, well he struggled in this one. 3/12 for 44 yards. Nathan Kent came in and threw 2 touchdowns and threw for 183 yards on 10 completions. Certainly not something you like to see from a talented true freshman, but these are growing pains for him to have to go through.
Quinn Boyd got the start for Stony Brook and honestly looked pretty solid. 19/29 for 176 yards and a touchdown. Their run game was dominated by Roland Dempster, who ran for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns on 40 attempts, which is genuinely crazy to think of. Towson’s run offense was abysmal all day. Could not get anything going to the tune of 42 yards on 16 carries. Nathan Kent led the way with 20 yards. Yes you heard that right- 20 yards of rushing.
Now the passing game, was pretty good. Jon Dunmore once again leading the charge with 7 carries for 119 yards and a touchdown. Jaceon Doss also got himself a touchdown on 2 receptions for 55 yards. The Seawolves didn’t need to do much in the passing department as MarQeese Dietz led the way with 53 yards receiving and Dez Williams found the endzone for their lone receiving touchdown.
Towson defensively has struggled with getting takeaways this year. 1 sack on the day and 2 total tackles. Xavier Terry and Alfred Thomas tied for the team lead with 12 tackles respectively. Stony Brooks’ defense didn’t have much better stats but they got 1 more sack. They were able to get off the field and force Towson to punt. Anthony Ferrelli led them in total tackles and got sacks from AJ Roberts and Dyshier Clary.
This one feels like a massively missed opportunity. These are the games that you have to win and to lose these ones hurt as the season goes on. Towson was 0-3 in October and will need a strong second half of the season to salvage it.
The attention now turns to yet another road game. This time a trip down south to take on North Carolina A&T. The Aggies have not had a great go at it this year. Just 2 wins on the year, but 4 of their 6 losses by 10 points or less. They’ve been beaten pretty badly twice by UCF and North Carolina Central. Who knows, maybe they come out swinging on Towson. Fresh off a win against Campbell, they will look to finish the year strong.
Under center for the Aggies will most likely be Redshirt Sophomore Kevin White. The Newport News native has 6 passing touchdowns on the year and 3 rushing touchdowns with just 2 picks. The Tigers will need to keep an eye on him to make sure they can shut him down.
Wesley Graves paces their rush attack. A redshirt senior and power back has 5 touchdowns on the year. Shimique Blizzard and JT Smith are a few other running backs who have found success on the ground. Their passing attack features Jayvonne Dillard, Amonte Jones and Jamison Warren, all of whom have found the endzone at least 1 time this year.
Defensively, Joshua Iseah leads them in tackles with 45 and has 2 INT’s on the year. Tre Mittman has 3 pass breakups, and Aaron Harris has 11 pass break ups on the year. Tim Alderman is another guy who will make it difficult for Towson has he has 7 quarterback hits.
The Tigers cannot afford to over look this game. They need to go in and play mistake free football and get out of there with a win. A loss would be absolutely deflating to a team that has really been through it in the month of October.
