Everyone’s Saying Same Thing About Hollywood Brown Today

May 3, 2022 by The Spun

Marquise Brown warms up before a game.

When the Arizona Cardinals traded for wide receiver Marquise Brown during the first night of the NFL Draft, it seemed like a somewhat curious move.

After all, Arizona already had DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green, plus 2021 second-round pick Rondale Moore. But this afternoon, the Cardinals’ big move began to make a lot more sense.

Hopkins has officially been suspended for six games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing drugs. This means that unless the punishment is overturned, Hollywood Brown is going to enter the season as Arizona’s WR1.

Immediately after the Hopkins news dropped, several fans and analysts mentioned this new reality, which Arizona surely had to be aware of before making the deal.

So the Cardinals didn’t get Hollywood Brown just to appease Kyler Murray after all.

Ravens probably could have gotten a better deal for Hollywood Brown if this was known five days ago. #Leverage https://t.co/UGd0n361GR

Now we know why Hollywood Brown was worth 50% royalties on ticket sales this session. Hopkins popped hot. https://t.co/XyML5GQGsa

Whelp….that Hollywood Brown trade makes a hell of a lot more sense now 👀👀 https://t.co/ED1aKap3FT

In three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Brown caught 195 passes for 2,361 yards and 21 touchdowns. He eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving for the first time in his career last season.

“I thought last year, when we had all those guys healthy, you know Christian, A.J., and ‘Hop’, Maxx was playing good, Rondale was coming in and spelled those guys, both backs — that’s when we were at our best,” Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said about the team’s reasoning for acquiring Brown, via ProFootballTalk.

“So, the more playmakers we can have, the better dynamic guy who can kind of take the top off, inside, outside, and I think he’s just scratching the surface. Like Steve (Keim) said, we really feel like he fits what we do. He played a similar scheme in college there at OU with Lincoln (Riley). So, it should be a quick learning curve as well.”

The Cardinals had better hope Brown adjusts quickly. They’ll be counting on him pretty heavily early on.
