Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing About Ohio State Tonight

April 28, 2022 by The Spun

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Chris Olave against Clemson.

Tonight has been a good one for Ohio State wide receivers. Three consecutive former Buckeyes just came off the board in the first round of the NFL Draft.

First, the New York Jets took Garrett Wilson with the No. 10 overall pick. Then, the New Orleans Saints traded up to pick Chris Olave at No. 11.

Finally, the Detroit Lions moved up to take Jameson Williams, who began his career at OSU before transferring to Alabama and having a breakout 2021 season, at No. 12. Amazingly, these three played together for the Buckeyes from 2019 and 2020.

NFL and college football fans and analysts couldn’t help but look at the trio of selections and think about Ohio State’s embarrassment of riches.

@markpantoni not a bad night for you guys

Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave and Jameson Williams getting drafted back-to-back-to-back is pretty damn cool.

Garrett Wilson: No. 10 overall
Chris Olave: No. 11 overall
Jameson Williams: No. 12 overall#NFLDraft #WRU

Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jameson Williams all played together at Ohio State and now go back-to-back-to-back in the draft. Wild stuff.

Garrett Wilson > Chris Olave > Jameson Williams

And to think Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the best of them all.

— Ben Stevens (@BenScottStevens) April 29, 2022

No. 10 Garrett Wilson
No. 11 Chris Olave
No. 12 Jameson Williams

That was Ohio State’s 2020 starting lineup at WR. They went back-to-back-to-back in the #NFLDraft

Garrett Wilson ➡️ Chris Olave ➡️ Jameson Williams

Brian Hartline, take a bow.

— Timmy Hall (@TimHall971) April 29, 2022

Wild that Williams was behind Wilson and Olave at tOSU and they are drafted back to back to back

— Robert Littal BSO (@BSO) April 29, 2022

Wilson. Olave. Williams. B2B2B.

Ryan Day best get the out the checkbook and the quill ink for Brian Hartline.

Without question, the Buckeyes have had an absolutely loaded wide receiver room the last few years, and it is still well-stocked. As noted above, Jaxon Smith-Njigba is still in Columbus, and he’s likely to be a first-round pick next year.

Smith-Njigba was actually Ohio State’s most productive receiver in 2021, catching 95 passes for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the team in the first two categories, though both Wilson and Olave caught more touchdown passes.

Julian Fleming, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka are other returners to watch at receiver for OSU in 2022. Oh yeah, we can’t forget to mention that Ryan Day has three of the top 15 wideouts in the 2022 recruiting cycle joining the program for this season.

The rich stay rich.
